"On the Line"

January 22, 2018

I would like to apologize for the crazy format of the following email.

Allow me to start off this wonderful weekly with some pretty big news!

The Spain Málaga Mission is now authorized to use Facebook and other social media platforms in daily proselyting efforts. Along with that, we now have a smartphone. Aaand missionaries are going to start coming in with their own smartphones. Fuuuutuuuure! So that's pretty crazy. Hopefully we're all fully capable of using this new tool for the Work without betraying the trust of the Lord. That would be preferable.

Honestly, Facebook won't be of much use to Spain in regards to missionary work, but WhatsApp on the other hand, changes the game entirely. WhatsApp is a way to get around paying for cell service be cause you can text and call for free as long as you have data or WiFi. Shortcut: Just pay for a data plan or only rely on WiFi. The people here really know how to take advantage of that. Calling and regular texting was very inefficient before, if it even worked, but now we can silently bypass that obstacle and get right to their home screen with a message before they even have time to reject the Spirit! *righteous evil laughter* We learned all of the details at a zone conference (This time it was just our zone to make the environment a little more controlled) on Saturday. I'm feeling pretty good about the new directions missionary work has been going recently!

Alright, the week! Not much happened. It's kind of sad, really. That first week inside really took a toll on the progress of the transfer. We'll be getting back into full swing this week even if it kills me!... Well, I mean, even if it horribly maims me...maybe. Honestly, I don't see anything dangerous coming from trying to pick up the pace a bit, so let's just assume the chance of mortal wounding and/or death are at a minimum. Bottom line: We should have more to do this week. We were able to introduce Elder Costas to a few members throughout the week, but we were only able to set up one lesson with an investigator that ended up not happening. We also spent some time adjusting, trimming, and editing our Facebook accounts to more mission appropriate standards. Luckily, I didn't have too much to go through photo-wise. I thought there would be more dirt. We've been encouraged to continue the muckraking. It's going to be fun going through the trouble "New Facebook Jacob" got into and even more satisfying to get rid of the stupid stuff he posted years ago. Whoo.

Elder Costas is great. The language barrier is pretty much non-existent, he has a good sense of humor, and he thinks my sense of humor is funny! He is also a very good help in lessons and spiritual things. When I introduced him to the bishop yesterday, the first thing the bishop did was ask him to fill in for a talk...whoops! Haha, He was a good sport about it. He gave a talk that he had already had prepared from another time and shared a short powerful testimony to end.

"Experience that would only happen on a mission in Spain" of the Week:
At the end of the day on Wednesday, I was sitting on the floor with a Bolivian from Barcelona, playing the Pokemon trading card game for the first time of my life (in Spanish), listening to Bach, whilst eating Middle Eastern-based fast food dropped off by a member. ...Never expected a scenario like that to ever occur in my life.

Recommended Talk of the Week:
The Great Commandment by Joseph B. Within,
Saturday Afternoon Session of October 2007
The theme fits the circumstance of the talk perfectly.

Thaaat's all I've got for the week...
Welp! Until next time!

Elder Jensen :)

OH! BIG NEWS. AND I MEAN BIIIIIG NEWS.

Fátima, our investigator from Badajoz? Remember her? She was baptized on Saturday. That made me feel good.

I can't believe I almost forgot that.
